JENA - An estimated 10,000 people traveled to Jena today to rally in support of the Jena 6 and ask for "justice." The rally is in response to the recent attempted murder charges of six teenagers at Jena High School.
A march scheduled to start at 7 a.m. has just begun. Some protesters are gathered at the Ward 10 Recreation Park, where the march started, as another couple thousand are already waiting at the LaSalle Parish Courthouse, the march's end.
Protesters arrived before sunrise, well before 3 a.m. The rally drew people from all across the nation, including some from North Carolina, New York, California, Georgia and Florida.
The two buses transporting LSU students to the rally were diverted to the march's end because of traffic congestion. Some protesters have shown concern over what has become a divided rally.
The Rev. Jesse Jackson spoke at about 6:30 this morning on the injustices of charging one of the Jena 6, Mychal Bell, as an adult and continuing to hold him. Jackson called it "child abuse."
