Football: LSU reeling in the in-state talent, looking to fill needs at quarterback

5/4/10 9:35 PM

The year is only four months old, but LSU has already begun putting together one of the nation’s elite football recruiting classes. The Tigers currently have 10 commitments for the 2011 recruiting class, seven of which are on the Rivals.com’s Top 250 watch list. LSU is cleaning up the in-state talent, as nine of the recruits committed to LSU reside in the Pelican State. The lone foreigner is linebacker Trevon Randle of League City, Texas. LSU coach Les Miles has addressed numerous different positions with this year’s recruiting class, receiving commitments from two defensive tackles, two offensive tackles, two running backs, two wide receivers and one athlete. Miles and staff recently offered scholarships to offensive tackle Gregory Robinson from Thibodaux and...

Men's Basketball:

4/26/10 8:27 PM

LSU coach Trent Johnson has been working hard on the recruiting trail. Johnson has six new faces coming into town. The recently signed five-man recruiting class plus the addition of Iowa State transfer Justin Hamilton should alter the face of LSU's basketball team significantly next year. Johnson hasn't taken a break. PIckering combo guard John Isaac has already committed to Johnson for the 2011 class. Isaac, a 6-feet-4 inch, 205 pound prospect, is rated as a three-star recruit by Scout. Other top flight players have listed LSU as options. Cedar Hill, Texas native Thomas Gipson lists LSU as one of his top choices according to Scout, as does Burlington, New Jersey forward. Gipson rates as a three-star prospect according to Scout and Rivals. Johnson and the Tigers probably have a worse...

Football: In-state prospects take center stage at Nike football camp

4/20/10 7:05 PM

Last Saturday’s LSU Nike Football Training Camp attracted some of the South’s best high school talent to Baton Rouge, but two Louisiana recruits stood out among all participants. Capturing wide receiver MVP honors was Lutcher High School wide receiver Jarvis Landry. Landry, an LSU commitment for the class of 2011, displayed great catching ability and crisp route-running that separated him from the field of wide receivers in attendance. “Landry is such a fluid, natural wide receiver,” said Rivals.com southeast analyst Barton Simmons. “[At the camp] he showed he has great separation and start and stop ability.” Simmons said Landry has one of the best set of hands in the country and a well-rounded skill set that can compensate for any concerns about the...

Football: LSU seeks out-of-state targets despite deep talent in Louisiana

4/13/10 6:51 PM

LSU has gotten off to a furious start with its 2011 football recruiting class by corralling elite talent from a deep pool of players in Louisiana. But the Pelican State alone won’t be able to fulfill all of LSU’s recruiting needs. Consequently, LSU will have to search beyond state lines to address depth issues at key positions. Rivals.com recruiting analyst Mike Scarborough said LSU’s out-of-state efforts will focus on reloading talent along the line of scrimmage. “You should really watch the defensive tackles and defensive ends from out of state,” Scarborough said. “[LSU] really wants to replenish the whole defensive front.” LSU has already received commitments from two Louisiana defensive linemen, Quentin Thomas of Breaux Bridge High School...

Football: LSU can afford idle recruiting period

3/16/10 5:42 PM

Few developments have occurred recently in recruiting for LSU football with the team's focus on spring practices. But football coach Les Miles has afforded himself some idle time on the recruiting trail because he has done a remarkable job thus far in targeting some of the top high school talent in the state of Louisiana. The Tigers' 2011 class currently consist of nine commitments, including eight players from Louisiana. Six of the eight in-state prospects are members of the ESPNU 150 Watch List with potential four or five-star ratings: running backs Jeremy Hill and Kenny Hilliard, wide receivers Jarvis Landry and Alonzo Lewis, offensive tackle La'El Collins and defensive tackle Anthony Johnson. Rounding out the list of in-state commitments are offensive lineman Corey White and... 2 comments
