The LSU postseason is officially underway with the Tigers traveling to the northwest where they will play in the Corvallis regional hosted by Oregon State as a two seed.

LSU’s first opponent will be will be the third-seeded San Diego State while the Beavers will take on fourth-seeded Northwestern State.

This is the first time LSU will play in a regional away from Baton Rouge since 2010, when they visited UCLA and went 1-2. 

Paul Mainieri and company are very familiar with Oregon State, beating the Beavers two straight times to advance to the College World Series championship against Florida a season ago.

Most of the Tiger players have never been to the northwest and think it will be a fun experience to play in a different part of the country. According to weather forecasts, the high on Friday is expected to be 66 degrees.

“Never been to Oregon, but I’m excited to go over there,” centerfielder Zach Watson said. “I know they’re a great team and we’re traveling for the first time in six years so we have to be prepared.”

LSU also had its team award ceremony before the selection show with two seniors bringing home the honors.

First baseman and pitcher Austin Bain was awarded the Skip Bertman award for his leadership, toughness and courage while fellow senior Beau Jordan won the Wally Pontiff Jr. Scholar Athlete award.

“It means the world to me,” Bain said. “Growing up and watching Skip, it’s a good feeling to be able to win an award after him.”

The players have an off day on Monday and will have a light practice Tuesday before making the trip out to Corvallis, Oregon on Wednesday. Mainieri is hoping t get one more practice in on Wednesday if time allows it.

The Tigers first game against the Aztecs will be on Friday at 3 p.m. and televised on ESPNU.
