Former LSU linebacker Ali Highsmith released by Chargers - 3:35 p.m.

Former LSU linebacker Ali Highsmith has been released by the San Diego Chargers, according to a report by the National Football Post.

Highsmith was recently put on waivers by the Arizona Cardinals and claimed by the Chargers on Aug. 5. The Cardinals signed Highsmith as an undrafted free agent in 2008.

Highsmith racked up 101 tackles as a senior on LSU's 2007 national championship team and earned First-Team All-American honors from CBSSports.com.
