These figures reflect the non-classified 2008-2009 annual salaries of University employees as of July 1, 2008. Note that employee salary is not necessarily the same as employee pay; the latter can be affected by other factors like bonuses.

The sum of the salaries equals $219,217,241. Divided among 3,286 employees, this equals an average salary of $66,712.49. The median salary is $58,000.

You can search the database using most browsers' search functions. On Apple computers, the search function is typically accessed by typing Apple + F. On Windows computers, the search function is typically accessed by typing Control + F.

If you are unable to find a specific University employee on the database, please leave a comment and let us know. Keep in mind these figures are current as of July 1, 2008.

As of Oct. 27, 2008, the salaries of Daily Reveille managment are posted on the salary database. These salaries are accurate for the fall 2008 semester only. Because these are student worker salaries, and also because they are scheduled on a per-semester basis, they are not included in the salary sum or in the calculations of the average and median salaries.

Don't students pay for parking, copies, and equipment as well?

One thing this list points out very well: You Reveille people are way overpaid. The student body definitely is not getting what it's paying for.

Compare LSU's salary database vs. other universities. You will see that many of our professors are grossly underpaid, even if you take into account the change in the price of living.

So, where are the groundbreaking articles about salary differences by race/gender/age that we were promised by the Editor? 10+ days since the salary database was posted and counting...

Wake up Revielle. What you don't realize is that professors pay out of their OWN salaries for parking, copies, and for equipment they can't get funding for, just so they can teach you. Next thing you know, professors will have to pay just for the privilege of teaching at LSU. Stop whining about your tuition going up. If everyone paid back their student loans, things would be different. Stop thinking that the world owes YOU. Consider yourselves privileged and respect those who teach you for a change.

The Reveille has nothing going for it but the lazy, irresponsible ability to offend people without effort. This is not journalism. This isn't worth the bandwidth it's consuming. It's pathetic. You should be ashamed. You've consistently proven each week that you're nothing but children who don't want to learn. You think you already know it all; you think you're brave because you frustrate and exploit people.

Most of you will never do anything worthwhile in journalism, and this -- alongside ever other sickening, baseless article you've printed -- is why. Your editors are teaching you that the path to success in this field is through shock value. Like every angry comment you receive, I hope you revel in this one just as much. Save us the trouble of considering you for a job, please.

You are not using your experience at the Reveille to your advantage, and the more you sink into this excuse for a job, internship, learning experience, whatever you want to call it, the less impact you'll make in the real world. We don't want to deal with so-called writers like you, and we're looking forward to effortlessly weeding you out in the coming years.

The list was compiled with very little research and to create shock value. That's the way they do things. That's why they continually attack SG. Easy targets who don't fight back.

Well, half the people on this list are not professors, and what about Libraries, and other reserach facilities none of those are on there and many other positions, why was this group singled out

Yeah, instead of raising tuition, just cut those salaries. I think a committee of students should be brought in to decide who should earn how much, with the goal to save enough money to fund more scholarships for us students. I mean, between having one of the lowest tuitions already and TOPS covering all of that, just because we're paying next to nothing to come here now, that's no reason to raise our tuition! That's OUR money! And if any professors or administrators quit over the decisions, well, let them. That will then save a bunch of money!

I read in the Advocate that Chancellor Martin wants to increase our tuition for next year. I guess this means that many overpaid administrators and faculty members will make more money. I had several classes in the Cox Center with 1,000 other students. Those classes sucked. I should have gone to Hammond where the faculty members are paid less, but the faculty care about the students.

I'm not angry that my salary has been published, I know that it is public information. I think it's needless to post it where everyone on the internet can see it. Is this supposed to be hard-hitting journalism? I just think that if someone wants to know how much money I make, then they can go the library for once in their college career.

I don't think publishing something that is public record and straight out of the library is that monumental. A great service to the LSU community? That's quite a stretch. I think getting details of all financial compensation for each employee would be a big deal. particularly those whose salaries are augmented by foundation money and other rewards, like Hamilton. That would give a truer picture of what they receive for their work. As for those who claim this is a violation of privacy, they knew when they went to work at LSU this kind of stuff comes with the territory of working in the public sector. Publishing the salaries of the Daily Reveille employees is silly. You're student workers. Everyone already knows you're paid next to nothing.
Question?
Tue Oct 28 2008 02:01
Are these salaries how much faculty make in one semester?
Suck It Up
Tue Oct 28 2008 01:57
LSU faculty and staff should stop whining about their salaries being published, because they're paid by taxpayer and student dollars, and we deserve to know where our money's going. If you don't like their salaries being public, then go to private university.

I work hard for a modest salary at LSU and want to say thanks for violating my privacy like this. My salary is just a Google search away for the entire planet. While you're at it, let's see if we can find some medical records or other juicy tidbits that are similarly vulnerable to exploitation by attention-starved hacks and hacks in training.

I am glad that you published this information on your web site. The Reveille is providing a great service to the LSU community. I do hope that Mass Comm Dean Jack Hamilton will not punish the staff for taking such actions. Many people, including myself, did not know about the salary lists. It would be a good idea to publish a notice in the Reveille that the salary information is available on the Reveille web site. Thank you for taking a step to bring LSU into the present.
