Gas prices reach record highs

Jacob McGuire was surprised to hear gas prices hit a record high Thursday and will likely continue to increase through the summer months. The animal, dairy and poultry science freshman plans to drive to Pensacola, Fla., with 11 friends during spring break.

SAS associate vice chancellor reassigned

The Office of Student Auxiliary Services (SAS), a division of Student Life and Academic Services (SLAS), was dissolved Tuesday, according to a memo sent by acting Vice Chancellor for SLAS Eric Monday. Doris Collins, who served as the associate vice chancellor of SAS, has been reassigned to be the Executive Director of Research and Special Projects for the division of SLAS, a new position.

Faculty Senate discusses amendments to tenure process -- 3/14

The tenure track of professors could take a more one-on-one approach in the future. Members of the Faculty Senate met Friday and discussed a proposed resolution that would add a mentoring structure to achieving tenure. The resolution said mentoring is currently not part of the tenure path, but the bill calls for a group of three faculty members to advise and mentor a professor seeking tenure.

System president to recommend candidate to Board in April

LSU-Alexandria is one step closer to getting their new chancellor. The LSU-A Chancellor Search Committee has recommended three candidates for the post to LSU System President John Lombardi and the LSU Board of Supervisors. Lombardi is expected to make a recommendation at the Board's April 24 meeting.

General Electric hires O'Keefe to head D.C. office

Former Chancellor Sean O'Keefe is leaving the world of academia for General Electric Aviation's Washington D.C. operations beginning June 2. Rick Kennedy, GE media relations manager, said he could not disclose O'Keefe's future salary. Kennedy said GE representatives and O'Keefe have been speaking for several months, but he could not say who approached the other about the position.

Winners of Wednesday's Residence Hall Association election were announced Thursday. Positive change for residents was promised by Jenny Kornuta, mass communication sophomore, and Kathy Smith, math and general studies sophomore, who were elected president and vice president, respectively.

Students living in Herget Hall were forced to evacuate the dorm March 5 around 4 a.m. for what they thought would be another routine fire alarm a resident pulled as a prank. The students did not know they would be prevented from re-entering the building until 6 a.

Former Tiger QB to be grand marshal

LSU fans will have one more chance to cheer on the quarterback who led the Tigers to this past season's national championship. Former quarterback Matt Flynn will reign Saturday as grand marshall of this year's St. Patrick's Day celebrations. "Wearin' of the Green Parade" is expected to draw in crowds of nearly 120,000 to 140,000 people in celebration of Saint Patrick and Baton Rouge's Irish community.
