The LSU football team, already leading the Southeastern Conference with eight verbal commitments for the 2009 recruiting class, is not stopping while it is ahead. Quarterback Chris Garrett committed to the Tigers on Wednesday, making Baton Rouge his next destination after passing over Mississippi State.

An investigation headed by the Office of the Attorney General led to the arrest of a 38-year-old graduate student who allegedly sent sexual text messages to a 15-year-old boy enrolled in University Laboratory School. On March 19, the Baton Rouge Police Department booked Michael Cooley, of 6810 Jefferson Hwy.

Grammy winners to play Groovin' (3/26)

Wyclef Jean, Grammy-winning musician and producer, will headline the 11th annual Groovin' on the Grounds music festival organized by Students on Target. Rapper Chamillionaire, singer-songwriter Matt Wertz, rock group Ingram Hill and the Greg Talmage Band, the 2007 winner of the University's Battle of the Bands, will also play at the concert, which aims to educate college students about positive choices regarding alcohol consumption.
