STUDENT ARRESTED FOR PUBLIC INTOXICATION
A 26-year-old University student was arrested at about 6 p.m. Sept. 19 for disturbing the peace by public intoxication and criminal trespassing after he wouldn’t move out of the way for the Tiger Band before kickoff in Tiger Stadium, according to LSU Police Department spokesman Capt. Russell Rogé.
East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies escorted Saul Newsome, of 6510 Oak Cluster Drive, Greenwell Springs, to LSUPD detectives, Rogé said.
The detectives banned Newsome, who was intoxicated, from the football game, Rogé said.
But shortly after, Newsome tried to sneak through the student section gate.
After officers told him again to leave, Newsome refused to leave and attempted to spit on one of the officers, Rogé said.
After Newsome was restrained, the officers brought him to LSUPD.
Newsome was booked in EBR Parish Prison.
WOMAN ARRESTED FOR PUBLIC INTOXICATION
A 34-year-old woman unaffiliated with the University was arrested on Sept. 19 at about 5:40 p.m. for disturbing the peace by public intoxication in the parking lot of the Public Safety Building.
Officers and EMS officials responded to a medical emergency call from the parking lot, where Meredith Vincent, of 1509 South State St., Abbeville, was passed out, Rogé said.
When EMS officials told Vincent they would have to remove her from the area because she couldn’t stand, she became belligerent — yelling at officers and making a scene, Rogé said.
She was brought to LSUPD where she was issued a misdemeanor summons and released to friends.
TWO STUDENTS ARRESTED FOR MARIJUANA
Responding to a complaint about the smell of marijuana coming from a room on the third floor of Evangeline Hall, officers arrested two University students at about 5:45 p.m. Sept. 14.
The two students — 19-year-old Jordan Mathers, of 524 Marigny Avenue, Mandeville, and 18-year-old Michael Graham, of 203 Green Briar Drive, Friendswood, Texas — were arrested for simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, Rogé said.
The officers knocked on the residence hall room door and, after smelling marijuana, asked to inspect the room, Rogé said.
When questioned, Mathers and Graham gave the officers two grams of marijuana and the smoking device they had.
Both were issued a misdemeanor summons and released.
MAN ON WHEEL CHAIR PANDERS PEOPLE FOR MONEY
A 34-year-old man was issued a citation for remaining after being forbidden after LSUPD received a call about a suspicious man pandering people for money near West Campus Apartments at about 11 p.m. Sept. 15.
Officers arrived at the scene and identified Donald Hill, of 876 Iris Street, Baton Rouge, as a man who has been banned from campus many times before, Rogé said.
Although Hill had no drugs on him, he was intoxicated, Rogé said.
MAN BOOKED FOR DWI
A man unaffiliated with the University was arrested for driving while intoxicated after officers saw him driving southbound on Highland Road with no headlights at about 3 a.m. Sept. 17.
Rick Haigood, 23, of 16352 Old Hammond Highway, Baton Rouge, was stopped on Highland where he failed a field sobriety test, Rogé said.
Officers brought Haigood to LSUPD, where a breath test registered 0.136 grams percent blood alcohol content, Rogé said.
He was booked in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for driving while intoxicated and a traffic violation.
STUDENT ARRESTED FOR MARIJUANA
A University student was arrested on Sept. 17 at about 10 p.m. for simple possession of marijuana and driving with no headlights, Rogé said.
Officers pulled over Jonathan Caillouet, 19, of 106 Palm Street, Thibodaux, on Nicholson Drive after they noticed his headlights were off while driving.
When they stopped and questioned Caillouet, the officers could smell marijuana. When asked if he had smoked any, Caillouet handed the officers two plastic bags filled with what appeared to be marijuana, Rogé said.
The two bags weighed about 5.2 grams, Rogé said.
Rogé said the officers didn’t determine if Caillouet was under the influence or not.
Calliouet was issued a misdemeanor summons for simple possession of marijuana and a traffic violation and released.
MAN ARRESTED FOR DWI
A man unaffiliated with the University was arrested for driving while intoxicated after officers found him passed out in a running car on the Miller Extension at about 2 a.m. Sept. 19.
Officers patrolling near the Miller Extension approached a car with its engine running where they found Reginald Morrison Jr., 38, of 328 Guliford Drive, Baton Rouge, was passed out, Rogé said.
Officers tried to wake Morrison two times. The first time, he awoke and passed out again, and the second time, he began screaming obscenities at the officers, Rogé said.
Officers got Morrison out of the car, but he couldn’t keep his balance. Morrison refused a field sobriety test and later a breath test at LSUPD, Rogé said.
Morrison was booked in EBR Parish Prison.
Rogé said even though Morrison wasn’t driving the vehicle at the time, the law states that he had control and therefore was considered to be driving while intoxicated.
SHOPLIFTING MAN ARRESTED
An 18-year-old man unaffiliated with the University was arrested on Sept. 19 at about 2 p.m. for attempting to steal a T-shirt from the LSU Bookstore.
Slate Lalonde, of 231 Shadowbrush Bend, Lafayette, ripped two tags off a T-shirt and attempted to leave the bookstore with it, a bookstore employee told the officers.
Officers stopped Lalonde and got the T-shirt back, Rogé said.
Lalonde was issued a misdemeanor summons for shoplifting, was banned from campus and released.
