An Egyptian soccer fan standing through the sunroof of a vehicle waves the Egyptian flag and shouts in support as he passes through the area hit by overnight violence between Egyptian soccer fans and riot-police directed towards the Algerian embassy in the Zamalek area of Cairo, Egypt, Friday, Nov. 20, 2009. The Egyptian president's elder son called for a tough stand amid an escalating diplomatic row following the loss to Algeria in a World Cup qualification playoff, as angry soccer fans rioted.

CAIRO (AP) — Angry soccer fans rampaged through a posh diplomatic neighborhood in Cairo over the weekend, smashing shop windows and shouting obscenities in a frenzy fed by venomous headlines that portrayed Algerians as barbaric terrorists with a history of violence.

i think you are missing a point, egypt are bad losers . before there was no internet but now you can chek the net to see history of egyptians treating their guest zimbabwe and then handball team of libia and etoile of sahel tunisia.
i ve been to egypt and i love egypt . but what happening now its not about the game its political and its obvious not to see it unless you are stupid. just if you think for a minute nobody is talking about palestine or saudi killing yemenis on the border. both regime are dictators and they draging people into it. i know about football i think both teams are weak and dont deserve to go to world cup

Subhanna Allah. First, there should be NO nationalism dividing Muslims. Second, the nationalist sentiments are being manipulated by elites from both sides, in particular Egypt's elite who have set the media against Algeria, possibly to deflecvt blame for the attack on the Algerian football team's bus. It should be noted that the team was attacked more than once, perhaps several times along the bus route and there was no security. How did these stonethrowers know which charter bus was transporting the Algerian team and what was its route? Apparently Egyptian bus official blamed the Algerian team for destroying the bus and claimed there was no attack. A French documentary crew was also on the bus and vouched for the claim that they were attacked. This particular fact suggests that Egyptian elites may have conspired in some way to disrupt the Algerian team. FIFA is not going to investigate this incident.

Mubarak and his media are fooling the Egyptian people, letting them steam off against Algeria. Poor Egyptians you are being lied to.

Please note that's not about soccer game (they are not soccer fans).but its about Egyptian Dignity, (they are Egyptians shouting for our dignity). We are not upset about loosing the match, we don’t care about games, we all care about Egypt, not as soccer fans but as Egyptians.... please understand our point of view.
Thank you

This is ridiculous! Egyptians do not seem to cope well with their team loosing. Their media keep portraying Algerian as Barbaric even though it was the Egyptian fans who acted Barbaric by stoning the Algerian soccer team in Cairo prior to the Egypt-Algeria match. Algeria finally won.

Hey, you are missing a HUGE part of the story.... Can you simply ignore what Algerians "fans" did to Egyptians after the match... Algeria sent 20000 "fans" dispite the fact that they were allowed only 10000 tickets. Guess what.... They sent criminals, army men...etc. in Army airplanes for one goal: beat the Egyptians disregarding the score at the end of the match. Algeria won the match, and yet, their fans attacked Egyptian fans on their way to the airport... the broke all their buses, thew stones and broke all windows... Then, they started throwing KNIVES inside the buses.... if you don't believe me, there nothing better that video evidence... go on youtube and type "Algerian fans in sudan" and check the videos there... So, if you were in the place of any Egyptian, would you be happy of what happened? don't you think that the men up there has the right of being angry? Especially that the Algerian Government refuses to apologize in anyway claiming that there is nothing to apologize for... Please be fair and publish this comment... Thank you
