A construction worker makes his way down the former Laville Food Emporium. The old building will be renovated into a new dining hall.

The renovated dining hall near East and West Laville Halls is in the process of getting a new name for its new look. Ashley Territo, finance and administrative services coordinator, said the University is currently looking at possible names for the dining hall. Territo said a texting campaign was created to better involve the community in the naming of the dining hall. "The campaign was created to get the community and University involved," she said. The campaign was also created to spread awareness about the new dining hall. "We wanted to get the buzz going," Territo said. "We wanted to get students and the LSU community involved." Territo said the committee received about 200 text message responses suggesting possible names. The names will be reviewed, and more ideas may be generated based on the names received. "The suggestions are an input not a contest," Territo said. "We will use the suggestions to guide us." Territo said there is not a deadline for when the name will be selected. They are going through the process to find a name that will fit the building. Many students are excited about the campaign to name the dining hall. "I think it is a great idea for the University to ask for student input," said Amanda Molina, kinesiology junior. "It will definitely generate a better variety of names to choose from." Kyle Goldich, marketing senior, said he thinks allowing students to contribute their input will result in a more original name for the hall. "It allows students to think freely and hopefully choose something great from our University's long and storied history," he said. "This way the dining hall will not just be named after a building that is nearby like the current dining halls are." Goldich said he wants the University to continue with similar campaigns to allow students to voice their input on other decisions concerning the campus.
