Crosswalk courtesy a must on campus
This is a plea to all who claim to follow the rules. The rules of the crosswalks, that is. As a biker, I love to bike. And when I say bike, I don't mean dodging people who refuse to cross the streets in the appointed crosswalks. I enjoy riding to the full extent that I am allowed by law. It's funny how people will hesitate to cross a street when a car is approaching, but when they see a bike careening at 20 mph it seems they view it as a chance make the biker swerve, skid, stop or generally do whatever is possible to avoid those who have little regard for others. Just because I am on two wheels and a bike that weighs less than some fully-loaded book sacks, doesn't mean I can stop any shorter than a car. It still takes me a good 20-25 feet to come to a complete stop when traveling at a brisk speed. I am thinking about safety for both me and the pedestrians. Now I know the buses don't stop at crosswalks - by Lockett, for example - but if you would walk a mere 20 feet farther down the street to the correct place to cross, I would be more than happy to stop and wait for a safe, clear break in the pack to continue. It is only the law. And bikers, please remember these few simple rules. 1. No bikes in the quad 2. No bikes on sidewalks or crosswalks.
All three of these areas are for walkers, not bikes. Let's remember, people: Both bikers and walkers need to do their part to keep everyone safe.

Senator applauds Students on Target
I am writing because I believe credit is deserved where it is due, and I want to applaud Micaela DeGruy and the members of Students on Target for their hard work and dedication, and as a columnist once said, for "getting it right." This past Saturday's "Groovin' on the Grounds" will go down as one of the best in history. Micaela and the members of SOT worked very hard to make this event possible, and it showed. Though Mr. Wyclef Jean had a message of his own during his performance, I believe the 10,000 spectators that left will forever remember their "good time not wasted" on the parade grounds Saturday night. Hats off to both DeGruy and SOT for bringing together the student body.
